The Bayeux Tapestry

An embroidered cloth fabric that is nearly 230 feet long that depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, is shrouded in mystery. Experts will agree that its true origins are unknown and its meaning, beyond the surface depiction of the Battle of Hastings, has yet to be determined. At least two of the panels at the end of the tapestry have been missing since unrecorded time, so the full story can only be speculated.

The piece in its entirety is on display at the British Museum until the Bayeux Tapestry Museum in Bayeux, Normandy, France has completed its renovations late in 2027.
